I have been a long time Healbot user and proponent. Recently I got an email from a reader Nebelmond that inspired me to give Grid another try. Usually, I use an add-on for a while before I write a guide and review, while I have used grid for about 3 weeks now I think that Nebelmond (who is German) wrote an excellent druid specific walk-through in his email to me so I figured I’d just pass it along. Enjoy.
Grid (and its configuration) differs from other add-ons and that makes it hard getting used to it. But investing maybe 1h of your time trying to understand it will pay off many, many times over.
I use Grid in combination with Clique. Almost everything I do in a raid is done with click-casting. The big advantage of click-casting is the tremendous speed increase while healing. This might not be obvious at the first glance but not having to manually change the target to cast a spell on it will save a lot of time and makes you react much quicker.
First of all I would like to point you to a very good Grid introduction at wowinsider.com where they explained pretty much the main concepts of Grid and its configuration. See: http://www.wowinsider.com/2008/01/22/raid-rx-unkicking-butt-a-grid-story/
With all those basics in mind you should make a list what you would like to see in Grid. Imho, this step is very important because otherwise you will be overwhelmed with all the features and information it has to offer. My List looks like this, in a raid I want to see for each group/raid member:
- which class is it
- how much HP it has lost
- has it aggro Read the rest of this entry »
This is the first installment of what will hopefully become a complete guide to Karazhan. I am fortunate that I have so many real life friends who play WoW with me. Recently my father and two cousins completed their attunement quests and are gearing up to get into their first ten mans ever. As the most experienced player in the family it falls to me to lead them so I’m writing this guide as part research and part observation I intent to make tweaks to the guide based on our own personal strategies and group dynamics, so that I don’t have to stay a quasi-scraper for too long.
The initial area in Karazhan contains four types of mobs, two bosses, although no one ever does one of them, and a handful of NPCs.
The first trash pulls in the instance are on a 25 minute timer. You need to kill Attumen & Midnight before the timer is up because as the mobs respawn they will run in and join the fray. So if you find yourself standing at the boss pull with 24 minutes passed you may as well go back and start again.
Spectral Charger– UNDEAD <Crowd Controllable> Chargers have a short range charge that does a fair amount of damage and causes a short term stun. The charge ability can be avioded by staying at max range and by having melee stay in tight. Chargers also do an AOE fear so make sure you are working in a clear area, often times pulling into the next room. Read the rest of this entry »
Last night Resurrection took our fourth crack at Solarian. The second boss in our progression through The Eye, (Void Reaver is on farm status). In the past we’ve had hardware and n00b issues that were preventing us from seeing what a truly easy fight this girl is.
For those who don’t know the fight High Astromancer Solarian. Is a two phase fight, with serious anti-raid abilities but little melee damage output for your tank to worry about. Read the rest of this entry »
